I've spent time treating people with addiction, anxiety, and other challenging mental health issues. I saw people who displayed OCD symptoms but didn't have access to proper treatment, which motivated me to become an OCD specialist. I've seen significant improvement with most NOCD members I've worked with, using Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy to treat them. It's because of ERP that people have gotten back to living normal, functional lives.
Intrusive thoughts cause feelings of fear, shame, and doubt. Your OCD does a great job convincing you that these thoughts are part of your character and could lead you to act on them. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Your OCD loves to make you chase after compulsions to relieve anxiety and thrives on having you repeat them. I want you to know that ERP can help you out of the grasp that OCD has on you. I have experience in treatment looking for recovery, so I know what it's like to seek help.
