My personal connection to OCD and mental health

It wasn't until I began treating OCD professionally that I realized I had been experiencing OCD myself. I had been diagnosed with trichotillomania (hair pulling) and dermatillomania (skin picking) before that—disorders that commonly show up alongside OCD. I really do understand what it's like to live with these conditions and do the work it takes to manage them.

How my background shaped my approach

Growing up, I struggled with both mental and physical health issues. Being physically unhealthy affected my mental health, so I find it essential to look at the whole person in treatment. Sleep, nutrition, and moving your body in ways that feel comfortable for you can all be important parts of the work we do together.

How I create a safe, supportive environment in therapy

Exposure and response prevention (ERP) therapy can require a lot of vulnerability, so I make sure you know from the first session that I'm here to listen and understand—never to judge. I also create space for joking and bringing lightness to heavy moments. My Members often say that they feel like they're talking to someone who knows OCD deeply but is also a real, authentic human being.

What I want to help you see in yourself

You are capable and in control. When people first come to me, it often feels like OCD is calling the shots. What I love most is seeing their confidence blossom and watching them realize that they hold the power to live the life they want.

Good experience

Kat has been the best therapist I have worked with to tackle my OCD and anxiety. She is very supportive and compassionate. Also, she will push me in all the right way to tackle exposures when I need a little push. Been working with her for over a year with ERP and can 100% say I have improved year of year.
