About

As a therapist, I use a non-judgmental, strengths-oriented, evidence-based approach. I'll meet you where you're at, get to know you, and we'll work together as a team to identify the goals and interventions that will help you reach those goals. When I'm not working or spending time with family or friends, I'm outside hiking or spending time in the natural world here in the Northeast. That's where I'm most relaxed and happiest.

It's always difficult taking that first step, but once you begin the process, we'll work together and get you the support you need. I think you'll find the process can be enlightening—and exciting when you see the progress you're beginning to make.

Get to know Scott Serpa

I became a therapist in my mid-career. I've always liked helping others and have been good at talking with people, so it was a natural fit for me and something I always wanted to do. So I made my career switch to become a therapist, and over the last half-dozen years have been working in community clinics around Massachusetts. Individuals in my family have struggled with mental health. That's part of the reason I wanted to get involved. I know they had significant improvement with their symptoms once they got engaged in treatment and weren't struggling by themselves. I've seen therapy help people overcome tremendous obstacles in their lives.

Many clients who came to me had been struggling with OCD symptoms most of their lives but hadn't found effective treatment. As I explored OCD treatments, I found that there really weren't many effective, available treatments outside of the local area where I live that people could find consistently. So I decided to specialize, and the rest is history.

I've worked with a wide variety of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, social phobias, excessive worrying, grief, and trauma. I've worked with substance abuse quite prevalently, as well as people with severe persistent mental illness.

I know it may be difficult to take the first step—reaching out and getting help. But I will be there with you, every step of the way, from the very first session all the way through the treatment process. We will work together as a team and collaborate. As we go along, if you feel things aren't progressing the way you'd like, we can make adjustments during our therapeutic alliance.

That's not uncommon. In the very first session, you may be afraid to open up and discuss yourself and the details of your experiences. It's always difficult taking that first step, but once you begin the process, we'll work together and get you the support you need. I think you'll find the process can be enlightening—and exciting when you see the progress you're beginning to make.

We are parents of an adolescent who is not ready to get help. This session was an educational session for us. The therapist was very knowledgeable and supportive. It was eye-opening to learn how some of our behaviors are actually accommodating our son's OCD. We will keep working to try to get him to get help!
