About

I enjoy working with people from various backgrounds—my ethnic background includes three races—so I like to explore how cultural upbringing can affect OCD. I'm a nurturer, and that extends to my office decor. During our sessions, you'll probably see a plant in the background. I consider myself a plant mom.

I have loved ones with OCD. I've seen how it's affected them, and I've been able to help. I will teach you about OCD, and we'll work as a team. There will be accountability, but I'm not here to get on your case. I'm here to help you. We'll figure this out together.

I was super resistant to the idea of ERP early on. I had read about the high dropout rate and how stressful it could be. When I was getting setup with NOCD the customer service people gave absolutely out of pocket examples of the activities I might be doing—like putting my hand in a toilet and then eating a granola bar without washing my hands first. WHAT?! I started this therapy with the intention of quitting pretty early on. But I knew I had to try because it wasn’t fair to myself or the people in my life to not at least try to get better. Ashley made the entire process reasonable and effective. Nothing that I did was “ out there” but rather dove into the fear that I already dealt with everyday and addressed it head on. During session I would read articles or watch shows about people getting sick or hurt, drive my car or write out the worst case scenarios I had had floating around in my head for months. There were no hands in toilets or granola bars. It was all REASONABLE. It got me to the level where I could live my life more or less like a “ normal person.” We dealt with what I had already been dealing with for years, just in a structured approach that did work for me. One thing that I think kept me going during the process early on was Ashley’s confidence. She was confident that she could help me and it helped me feel confident that I could be helped and things would get better. And they did! She works in a structured way. She is smart, focused, relatable, capable and caring but not “ mushy” which I appreciated. It felt like we were really doing work in the sessions, not like I was just paying someone to listen like it felt with previous therapists. ( I’m sure there’s some value in that for some people but for ocd you really need to do the WORK— idk why the program works but it does). Early on I really thought I had to get to the “root” of my ocd ( was it because of some awful experiences I had? Was it genetic? Was it cuz I grew up catholic and that gives a lot of guilt and anxiety?) but it turns out you really just need to go through the ERP and you’ll feel and see when it’s working. Intrusive thoughts decrease, behaviors decrease and you get your life back for the most part. I was surprised at how much progress I made with her truly. My insurance also does take this app surprisingly so be sure to check if yours does! I am so grateful for her REASONABLE, calculated, compassionate yet no-nonsense approach to this whole thing.

Ashley has created a very safe place for my son, but also pushes him to set goals and get uncomfortable. He said he felt better today just being able to verbalize some of the things that have been bothering him.

My therapist has helped me immensely by helping me learn to close intrusive thoughts before they turn into a spiraling rumination by confronting the root of my fear (of being a bad person) head-on and essentially asking myself: “maybe I AM a bad person” and just sitting in that possibility for a sec. It leaves nowhere else for my mind to go but just to move on. It’s helped soo much. Those intrusive thoughts are much easier to manage now, and have less power over my emotions.

I had contacted my mental health insurance and was waiting for an appointment with a pediatric ERP provider for over 6 months before I found NOCD. I was able to get an intake in just 6 weeks AND they took my insurance!!! ERP is a very straightforward therapy, but it absolutely requires the help of a professional to navigate the steps. Most of the work happens outside of therapy and continues on after you end the therapy. I think ERP lends itself well to a virtual platform as we had better success with NOCD than with traditional CBT for anxiety. Or maybe it was just that Ashley Ward was just a better therapist. We really loved working with her and have already recommended her and NOCD to other people.

She understands the issues my son has and can pinpoint things he is doing to avoid the real problem. She always brings him back to the real issue at hand and is firm, but supportive through the exposure process each time.

My therapist took me from being too afraid to taking out the trash to working in a clinical lab with infectious blood and stool samples. This really works

Just getting started, but Ashley seems competent and confident that she knows how to help my son. And she picks up on subtle clues or looks he gives and that means she’s paying attention and tuned into him which I appreciate.
