My personal connection to OCD and mental health

I've struggled with anxiety since high school. I've been in and out of therapy and on medication. It wasn't until I started getting specialized training with NOCD that I realized my anxiety has specific themes that are actually OCD. I also started noticing similar themes in my mom. It's really amazing that I now get to effectively support people with OCD—because I know how harmful a misdiagnosis can be.

How I create a safe, supportive environment in therapy

I know how hard it is to open up and start this process. I provide that soft landing, so you feel like you can share as much or as little as you would like to. There's a lot that we have to get done, but I always try to make sure that I'm really taking the time to get to know you instead of just your diagnosis.

What I want to help you see in yourself

Resilience—because many Members feel like things are hopeless and that they can't get better. Also, compassion, because Members also often struggle in a silent battle for many years. When you've been struggling alone with that distress for a long time, it can be very isolating.

My message to you if you're struggling right now

Once you have made that conscious decision to get better, you'll do really well in ERP. The motivation to succeed really does lead to more positive results.
