FAQs
What are the outcomes of your program and what results can I expect?
Our program is built on the same strong evidence and treatment principles for OCD that are recognized globally and here at NOCD. Research consistently shows symptom reduction (up to 47%) in peer-reviewed studies evaluating ERP-based on intensive programs At NOCD, we are proud that our approach to ERP therapy has been validated in the largest peer-reviewed study of OCD treatment ever of individual therapy, and our members experience meaningful results. We are proud to expand our services to an Intensive outpatient program to serve the needs of our community.
Is there a referral form available for clinicians?
Yes, we are part of the same dedicated community striving to get clients the help they need without the burden of extensive travel. A crucial step in our admission process is to coordinate closely with your client's current treatment team. Please note, we ask that you do not refer clients who have not yet completed 8 or more sessions of ERP treatment and show medical necessity for a primary OCD that is not majorly complicated by another disorder, as this program is designed for those who have not made sufficient improvement after that initial level of care. Please click here to visit our form for providers to submit a referral.
What specific topics and therapeutic approaches does the Intensive Treatment Program cover?
Our intensive treatment program combines comprehensive psychoeducation and group process to help you truly understand how OCD works, hands-on ERP focusing on exposures without compulsions, and practical skills for navigating intrusive thoughts and integrating ERP effectively into your daily life—not just within the program. We also incorporate CBT "gold standard" methods for OCD treatment. Our well trained staff help you navigate with a deep understanding of how to use the skills with your OCD subtypes and navigating relationships in living with OCD.
Who is eligible to join this specialized program?
This program is for adults (18+) living in Colorado who have completed at least 8 ERP therapy sessions without sufficient results. Participants must also be referred by their therapist as needing more intensive care and meet criteria for medical necessity.
How long is the program, and what is the typical weekly schedule?
The program runs for six consecutive weeks. You'll attend sessions Monday to Thursday, from 12 PM–3 PM MST, receiving consistent, focused treatment. Our program is based on treatment outcomes. Some members may be discharged earlier based on treatment progress. We recommend that you plan for the 6 weeks.
What is the cost of the program?
The program runs for six consecutive weeks. We require an initial $7,400 payment for the first three weeks of care. Progress is evaluated weekly using standardized measures and clinical assessments to track symptom reduction. While some members may complete treatment earlier based on clinical improvement, we recommend planning for the full six weeks.
An admission assessment is required to determine program fit. This one-time assessment costs $240 and is billed separately from the program. If you do not meet the admission criteria, we will provide appropriate treatment recommendations for another level of care or referral options. What is the size of each therapeutic group?
To maintain personal, effective, and safe interactions, we limit each cohort to 6 participants at this time.
Is a referral or insurance pre-approval required for this program?
You will need to discuss with your therapist to determine if you have a clinical recommendation for a higher level of care and if it is medically necessary. While we are actively pursuing insurance coverage to better support our members, we do not have a specific timeline for this process. At this time, the Intensive Treatment Program is cash pay only.
What if I am not sure that I truly qualify?
Check in with your current NOCD therapist or external therapist to ask if an intensive level of care fits your treatment needs at this time. Your therapist is welcome to reach out with questions or review this page for admission criteria. Another starting point is to complete an admission assessment with our team to assess and determine your level of care. An admission assessment will not guarantee your admission to the program.
How does this program offer a greater benefit compared to weekly therapy?
The Intensive Treatment Program provides ERP and comprehensive therapeutic support in a more intensive, structured, and group-supported format than traditional weekly sessions. This allows for deeper and faster progress in a shorter timeframe. However, it's important to note that this higher level of care is not suitable for everyone and does require a certain level of impairment in your day-to-day functioning to be medically necessary.
What happens after the six weeks of the program are completed?
Upon completion, you will collaborate with our team to develop a personalized aftercare plan. This plan is crucial for continuing your ERP practice and may include ongoing weekly therapy, joining support groups, or engaging in skills, and daily check-ins to maintain your progress and ensure lasting recovery.
Can anyone attend from anywhere?
No, this program offers flexibility with virtual treatment for those located in the State of Colorado. We are excited about the future growth of this program and its potential expansion to other areas. If you are unsure if this program or NOCD therapy in general is right for you, please don't hesitate to reach out to your current NOCD therapist or connect with your current therapist to make sure you meet the program criteria.
What if I need to miss a session? Can I keep going to my job while in the Intensive Treatment Program?
Given the intensive nature of this program, consistent attendance is strongly encouraged to ensure participants receive the full benefit of the therapeutic experience. However, we recognize that unforeseen circumstances may arise. Therefore, participants are permitted to miss a limited amount of time throughout the course of the program. This allowance balances flexibility with the need to maintain the integrity and effectiveness of the treatment process. While maintaining employment during the program is possible, participants should be aware that the program includes therapeutic assignments, including the practice of Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), outside of scheduled sessions. As such, a temporary leave of absence or workplace accommodations may be recommended to support full engagement in treatment and optimize outcomes.
What are the credentials of the Intensive Treatment Program staff? Will I have a consistent therapist or rotate among several?
Each participant is assigned a primary therapist who provides weekly individual therapy and closely monitors progress throughout the duration of the program, ensuring consistent and personalized support. In addition to individual sessions, participants will attend group therapy and ERP practice check-ins facilitated by a team of experienced clinicians. This rotation among group facilitators offers a variety of perspectives and therapeutic approaches, while the primary therapist ensures continuity of care and tracks overall progress in treatment.
