My experience with treating OCD:

The road to becoming a therapist that specializes in OCD happened quite naturally for me. I’ve been a therapist (LPC) for over 10 years, working within an OCD clinical program as well as in-patient cases at a local hospital. I use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy to treat OCD because it’s the most effective therapy for OCD. I've found it refreshing to see a treatment work and bring happiness to my clients. This level of happiness is what I want for you.

About Me

Right now, you're experiencing thoughts and urges that you find scary and overwhelming. You may be seeing horrible images that make you question who you are. I want you to know that you are not your thoughts, and you are not a bad person. These thoughts and urges belong to your OCD. I'm here to empower you, to teach you new skills that you can use to manage OCD on your own. You'll feel safe during my sessions. You will never be judged for the thoughts and urges that OCD is pushing on you. Members find me to be open and honest. I like to say that shame doesn't exist, at least not when you're with me. Whatever comes up during our time, we will work through it together.

I have found out more about OCD from NOCD than I have in 28 years of having OCD. The app has been a great comfort- from reading forums, life stories of OCD survivors or realizing that OCD has subtypes that I cycle through. The customer service was top notch and also having a peer advisor was wonderful. But when it came to actual therapy I was less impressed. My therapist only seemed interested in the ERP process rather than finding out anything about how my OCD makes me feel-which could help her know what exposures I should be doing. She took days to respond to my messages sometimes and came to sessions underprepared in my opinion. Sessions felt more like a class than a therapy session. She was very easy to talk to and kind but I just didn’t feel a connection that would lead to healing. Also kudos to NOCD because when there was a billing issue, they took responsibility and ate the cost for which I am super grateful. Thank you for this beautiful resource. When the time is right I may try another therapist in the future. ERP takes commitment and time which I was lacking at the time being a busy parent.
