In my youth, I counted each syllable of every word in my head, using my fingers while doing it. I can still recall the daily stress as I tried to fit in while hiding my hands. More recently, my mother was diagnosed with OCD near the end of her life. Everything inside the home had to be perfect, and it made her life challenging. These experiences led me to a path of helping others with OCD. I graduated from the University of Washington to become a social worker, but moved into therapy ten years ago. I use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy to create positive changes in people’s lives.
OCD is tough. It makes you believe that by doing compulsions, life will be fine. Then the obsessions return, you do your compulsion to relieve anxiety once more, and it ends up being a never-ending cycle that destroys your spirit. I want to show you how to cope with OCD, in a non-judgemental way so you can make progress every session. You’ll find that I have a very warm approach that’s empowering, affirming and authentic.
