Before I became a therapist, I was a school teacher. I loved developing relationships with students and watching their character grow. When treating children with OCD, it's best to describe what's going on in a way that they'll understand. For example, I may tell them to think of OCD opening your door and sitting in your house, but you never invited them in. Children understand what an intruder is and that intruders, like OCD, are bad people. I'm very enthusiastic and have no problem conducting sessions with parents in the room. I'll tell children that your thoughts do not make you a bad person and that OCD is something happening to them and not a reflection of who they are. Allow me to work with your child to put their OCD troubles behind them.
Treatment for OCD can feel daunting, but there's a lot of hope in treatment ... You may feel alone with your OCD, but you are not alone.
