My personal connection to OCD and mental health
I was born in China and adopted at age two. Growing up as an adoptee and as a burn survivor, I've had experiences like an intense lingering feeling that I'm not safe, or that someone will hurt me. Learning about OCD and ERP has helped me give myself grace and empathy, and it's helped me connect with my Members on a deeper level.
How I create a safe, supportive environment in therapy
People often tell me that I come across as non-threatening, which helps them open up. I stay calm, even when someone shares something deeply emotional, and I think that helps them feel more secure. I'm also big on transparency—whether it's explaining what I'm documenting or validating your experiences. I always want you to feel like we're on the same team, not like I'm above you.
What I want to help you see in yourself
I want you to realize that just looking for help is an incredible first step. A lot of people go into therapy with doubts, wondering, "Will I even get better?" But ERP is about small, steady progress. When you're able to realize, "Wait, I just did that. I sat with discomfort, and nothing bad happened," that's when you start believing in your own strength.
The most rewarding part of treating OCD
I love problem-solving. Therapy, to me, is a lot like detective work—looking for clues, piecing together patterns, and figuring out what's not adding up. The most rewarding part is when someone has that "click" moment, where all the work we've been doing suddenly makes sense, and they feel relief for the first time.
Why our members love working with Alexi
J.A.
Finding my therapist Alexi has been life changing for me (with my harm OCD). I admire how grounded and compassionate she is, which has made therapy easier for me. I can tell that her own life experiences have shaped her into someone who truly understands what others go through. It’s clear that she doesn’t just sympathize, but she genuinely gets it. Her insight and her ERP techniques have opened my eyes and helped me to understand my OCD better and taught me how to fight back and begin to heal and reduce my compulsions.
