I have a family member who suffers from OCD, so I know treating OCD requires knowledge, experience, and compassion. I believe in using evidence-based therapy: ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention). I'll educate you about your diagnosis and ensure you're aware of what ERP entails, such as building a hierarchy and using exposures. As a therapist, it is soul-satisfying to bear witness to a member as they shed their fears and reclaim their life. Beyond OCD, I also have experience treating PTSD with prolonged exposure.

My personal connection to OCD and mental health

I do have a family member who has OCD, and I've seen how negatively it impacts her life. Knowing how negatively a life can be impacted is a big part of why I want to help people affected by the condition.

How my background shapes my approach

My previous career in communications has definitely influenced my work in mental health. I gained an understanding of how important it is to clearly communicate, listen to what someone's saying, and work hard to ensure I'm communicating clearly in return.

How I create a safe, supportive environment in therapy

I find people respond really well to me sharing openly. I set the tone by being vulnerable myself, which helps make it comfortable for my Members to be vulnerable too. I also tend to present fairly casually and with some humor. A casual atmosphere and honesty about my life experiences make it easier for people to share openly.

My message to you if you're considering therapy

Exposure and response prevention (ERP) may feel scary at first, but it's often not as scary as you're imagining. Think about how frightened you were the first time you got on a bike, and how quickly that fear decreased. That's the same thing you can experience when you're doing ERP therapy.

Good experience

Each time I meet with Liisa she gives me valuable advice and tools that I can use in my everyday life; things that I would not have realized would be so helpful. I am only a few months into therapy but things have changed dramatically! My worry is so much less! Instead I have an unfamiliar sense of calm - I cannot say thank you enough for such an exceptional therapist and a program that really does work! THANK YOU!
