My personal connection to OCD and mental health

Prior to working at NOCD, I supported clients with many different mental health needs and worked with several who were really struggling with OCD. I had the privilege of collaborating with providers here at NOCD and was inspired by what NOCD was doing. I wanted to be part of this movement and learn the specialized treatment people with OCD need to improve their quality of life and get it back. That led me to make a major career shift so I could help people get the treatment they deserve and live successful, fulfilling lives with OCD.

How my background shapes my work as a therapist

Growing up in a Hispanic family taught me to deeply value family, culture, and intergenerational support. Our family gatherings were loving, warm, and full of connection, and there was a strong sense of compassion and support for one another. That deeply rooted sense of love—and the exploration of how we cultivate it personally and professionally—led me to the field of psychology. I wanted to carry forward those values of love, support, and compassion into my work with my Members.

How I create a safe, supportive environment in therapy

I want my Members to feel comfortable coming exactly as they are and to know they don't have to do any of this on their own. I hold hope for you, especially at the beginning of treatment when things can feel nerve-wracking. My Members have shared that our work feels warm and collaborative—not cold or one-sided—and that we're truly working toward goals together with compassion, care, and genuine regard.

What I want to help you see in yourself

I want my Members to see that being themselves is enough. You are unique, wonderful, and worthy just as you are. We all have strengths and areas we're working on, and that's okay. I focus on helping people build self-compassion and bravery as they move through challenging parts of treatment, learning to honor, cherish, and truly care for themselves along the way.

Good experience

I began my OCD therapy journey in November 2024 with my NOCD therapist, Lydia and since then, my life has changed in ways I never thought possible. Lydia is one of the most compassionate, caring, and understanding people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and has helped change the trajectory of my life for the better. As I began this journey, I actually had no idea I had OCD, but turns out everything I had been dealing with since I was a small child was because of OCD! Who knew! Lydia has given me tools and guidance that have transformed my life entirely. I cannot express my gratitude enough for Lydia, she is phenomenal!
