OCD has had a noticeable negative impact on people I care about, and I want to help prevent anyone else from suffering. My approach to OCD therapy is methodical and purposeful. I'm always curious about people and want to know as much about them as possible. Being trusted to help someone is an honor and a serious responsibility. Facing our fears and intrusive thoughts can feel scary, but you will not be alone. You can do this. My other areas of focus include homelessness and trauma.

My personal connection to OCD and mental health
I don't know how everyone missed the signs of OCD my whole life. I wasted a whole math test in third grade because I spent the entire 20 minutes writing the word mathematics until it was "just right." I was always terrified of random things. I thought I was just really scared. When I was 13 and started therapy, I was misdiagnosed with anxiety. It wasn't until my thirties that everyone was like "oh, it's OCD."
How I create a safe, supportive environment in therapy
I can really identify with feelings of frustration, terror, and hopelessness. It's helpful to have that personal experience, because it means I'm really speaking from the heart when I say, "your feelings are real." When I'm talking to somebody and they're in the throes of a doom spiral, I know how big those feelings can seem—you're feeling it in your whole body. But, I help you remember that those feelings will shrink.
What I want to help you see in yourself
I want you to know that you deserve peace in your own mind, and that you're capable of getting control of your emotions. Even just actually coming to therapy is a huge step. A lot of people never do.
My message to you if you're struggling right now
When clients say they had a really bad week because they are starting to see their OCD symptoms everywhere, I reply "that's great"—because it means you now know what to look for and identify. Once you can identify symptoms, you can start to treat them.

Sonya is just the sweetest - she has been so gentle and encouraging with me, and I feel so supported. She went out of her way to schedule an appointment with me outside of normal hours when I needed some emergency care!

She really calmed me down when I was in a panic. It's nice to have someone to talk to who doesn't judge me and who uplifts me no matter where I'm at. Thank you Sonya :')

After trying to find the right OCD therapist and feeling devastated, I got to meet with Sonya. After meeting her twice, I can say that I feel extremely hopeful. What sets her apart from other therapists is that she will try to get to know you as a person, develop a connection with you, throw in nice jokes to ease your anxiety, and really try to understand your fears, values, and cultural background/influence to treat your OCD. I am really hopeful and thankful that I have someone like her as my therapist. I feel secure and all I can say is that she is amazing. If anyone else is struggling to find the right therapist, I would recommend her. She’s the best.

After 29 years, I finally got my diagnosis. It's nice to finally get the confirmation that what I am going through was always real. The fight isn't over, but my heart feel lighter than it ever has :')
