My approach to treating OCD is compassionate, collaborative, and evidence-based. I primarily use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) to help members face their fears gradually and break free from compulsive behaviors. I work at a pace that feels safe yet effective, ensuring that each exposure builds confidence and resilience. I take a whole-person approach because OCD doesn’t exist in isolation. I integrate mindfulness, acceptance strategies, and self-compassion techniques to help members navigate distress while also addressing co-occurring challenges like anxiety, trauma, PTSD, or depression.

My personal connection to OCD and mental health
There's a lot of OCD and anxiety disorders across my family, and I grew up in the foster system. I've witnessed the ripple effect of OCD on the entire family, and I know it often takes a village to get one person the help they need. As a therapist, my life experience helps me diagnose OCD a lot quicker—and it allows me to help Members build better support systems.
How I create a safe, supportive environment in therapy
We are going to take baby steps, especially when talking about things that are very difficult to conquer. I'm going to ask you: "Are we good today? Do we want to try this, or not?" You are the captain of the ship and I don't go unless you tell me to go.
What I want to help you see in yourself
You're going to be able to do this. We're gonna handle what we need to handle so you feel more empowered to maintain your life and be who you want to be—despite what OCD tells you.
My message to you if you're struggling right now
You're able to sit with uncomfortable feelings. If you're struggling with that, understand that you have control over the session and you can suggest other exercises.

Sabre is amazing. I struggle with being vulnerable. She has been patient, kind, and great at helping me ease my anxieties. I now feel comfortable going to therapy and ready to tackle my OCD.

I lucked out having Sabre assigned to me at random. Sabre keeps its very real and helps me stay on task and focus on the goals at hand. She is very compassionate and has helped me realize so much about myself and my OCD. I came into therapy incredibly confused on what OCD was and how it affected my day to day. Now I am able to deal with my ocd head on and my symptoms have lessened greatly. Sabre is the bomb

Sabre has been incredibly helpful in my OCD treatment. She creates a safe, non-judgmental space while still challenging me in ways that support real progress. She is knowledgeable about OCD specifically, not just general anxiety, and use practical tools and strategies that I can actually apply in daily life. I’ve felt heard, respected, and supported throughout my treatment, and I’m very grateful for the care I’ve received.

As a NOCD therapist myself, I was hesitant to see another therapist at my place of work due to privacy concerns and the fear that "maybe it's one size fits all." I WAS TOTALLY SURPRISED AND VERY, VERY WRONG! Sabre has been a touchstone for me and my OCD journey and trauma. She's allowed me to let down my guard and take a deep dive into the layers of trauma, guilt, shame, and perfectionistic tendencies that have been keeping this cycle alive. Although this is HARD work, I'm looking forward to what surfaces and how I can stop avoiding, and start engaging and healing. Sabre is down to earth, funny, inclusive, compassionate, empathetic, and guides you in an empowering way. To quote Tina Turner, "she's simply the best!"

While I have had OCD most likely my entire life (themes started popping up around 12), I had mostly managed it until I had a few major life changes and started intensive talk therapy…which turned into a reassurance chamber. Over the course of two-ish years my life became smaller and smaller. I finally hit a breaking point and was diagnosed with OCD which led me to NOCD. My therapist, Sabre Birdsell, eased me into the ERP process while also guiding me through some really heavy themes and difficult ERP. It was TOUGH work but Sabre got me through it and I owe NOCD and her the life I’ve gotten back. Still more to work on but the journey is moving forward and I’m so thankful. It’s hard, it may seem counterintuitive at times. But ERP IS WORTH IT

Starting therapy has been a big step for me and Sabre has been very helpful. OCD has been something I’ve been struggling with for a reallyyyyyy long time but have only now started to accept and acknowledge it and that’s all thanks to Sabre’s expertise!

Sabre is definitely well versed in OCD and its treatment. She does a great job of explaining what OCD is and does to our brains and also probes deeply into its grasp on the brain during sessions, leading to new revelations that even individuals with years of OCD and treatment come to. Beyond her ability to specifically target and treat OCD obsessions and compulsions, she also provides more wholistic mental health care. This is particularly helpful, as OCD is intertwined with the whole of the person, and broader insights that may not seem connected to OCD on the surface are shown to be part of the larger web. I am grateful for the growth I have been able to experience during my time working with Sabre.

Sabre is incredibly accessible, and she makes me feel like I am never just another client. She creates personalized activities that truly meet me where I am, gently pushing me to grow while also knowing when I need to pause and take a break. She shows deep compassion and genuine understanding, and her intricate knowledge of OCD has helped improve my life after just a few short months. With her support, I feel like I have someone who stands beside me as I face the daily challenges of OCD. Each session helps me grow stronger and more hopeful.

Talking to Sabre makes me realize how easy it can be to talk to a therapist. I have had experiences in the past where I didn’t feel heard or understood, and nearly wrote off therapy entirely. I’m so glad that I started treatment with Sabre through NOCD so I had the opportunity to see how helpful it can be. I feel hopeful and empowered to make positive changes in my mental health for the first time in my life!

Sabre is AMAZING!! We have been working so hard to get my daughter to overcome her fear of getting a shot. It was incredibly successful - Sabre’s style, firm yet supportive style is exactly what we needed. I’m beyond grateful!! We had great success.
