My personal connection to OCD and mental health
I live in a rural community where there isn't really anyone who is trained in treating OCD and anxiety disorders. I found myself referring people with OCD to NOCD where I learned about exposure and response prevention (ERP) and took a couple of training sessions that I loved. I was so fascinated with the treatment. I saw how powerful it can be and how quickly people can get better.
How I create a safe, supportive environment in therapy
I used to work with people who were struggling with addiction. I worked with some people who were so ashamed, embarrassed, and guilt-ridden when they're just doing what they could to survive and get rid of the pain they were experiencing. I see a lot of similarities for people who are experiencing OCD. A lot of people are ashamed of their thoughts or think that there is something wrong with them for having them. There's nothing wrong with you. I want to help you manage OCD and these thoughts.
My message to you if you're struggling right now
OCD is real, and it can be super distressing and shameful. It's a brain-based condition that makes you truly believe that your intrusive thoughts are real or going to happen. Treatment can give you the opportunity to tackle these challenges by starting small and working your way up to bigger ones.
What my Members say helps them feel comfortable with me
People tell me that I'm nonjudgmental, which helps them feel comfortable. There really isn't anything I haven't heard because I've worked with so many people.
