About

As a therapist, my role is to walk alongside you on your OCD journey. The work is collaborative; together we decide how to gradually help you learn to tolerate your distress, instead of avoiding it. You will have a say in the work we do and will be given the opportunity to consent or not to any type of exposure exercises. I'm originally from Colombia, South America, and I am proud to be Hispanic. I moved to the United States when I was 8 years old and faced many challenges being an immigrant and not knowing the English language. I am fluent in Spanish and love to offer individuals the opportunity to do the work in Spanish, if applicable.

Get to know Erika Valek

I had positive experiences with previous therapists who helped me navigate personal challenges. These therapists offered support, hope, and new perspectives, which gave me a glimpse of how I too could journey with others through their challenges in life.

Throughout my life, I have been labeled 'controlling, perfectionist, too neat, too organized, type A, rigid.' In grad school, I learned about OCD—and that there were things about me I didn't choose. Once I understood that I was on the OCD spectrum, the guilt and shame I felt began to feel lighter. I learned to tolerate the discomfort instead of trying to avoid it. When I found out about NOCD, I felt called to join the many other licensed therapists who help others find relief from pain and distress. It is an honor to offer hope and change to so many individuals who, like me, face challenges with OCD.

I previously worked in a university counseling center and as a mobile crisis clinician. I have worked with individuals of all ages and socioeconomic statuses who have struggled with anxiety disorders, self-harm, depression, grief, substance use, eating disorders, trauma, and suicidal ideation. I have worked with many individuals and families faced with challenges as part of the LGBTQIA+ community. As a former Division I and professional basketball player, my goal is to one day offer mental health support to other athletes and coaches.

You are not alone. NOCD is committed to supporting you on every step of your OCD journey, offering hope that change is possible. This is your journey, and NOCD Therapy is here to honor and respect that.

Remember that although I'm your therapist, I too once experienced shame, guilt, and fear around disclosing how OCD was affecting my life. My passion is to create a safe space for you to take that risk, and begin learning how to sit in your distress instead of avoiding it.

NOCD therapists are trained by our world-renowned clinical leadership team.
