So many people with OCD have had trouble getting help because other people lack knowledge of what OCD really looks like. Knowledge is power, so I want to help you understand OCD. This work isn't easy, but it's always rewarding. The most gratifying part of my job is getting to know and work with so many different people from all walks of life. I have worked closely with people struggling with psychosis symptoms, mostly schizophrenia. I have also worked with family and couples prior to coming to NOCD.

Get to know Brian
My personal connection to OCD and mental health
My mental health story involves more of a struggle with depression than anything else. I come from a family that didn't talk about mental health all that much, so I was probably the first to ever get any sort of treatment or diagnosis for anything. It was when I was still a student studying counseling that I first got into attending therapy myself. It's something I'm pretty open about.
How I create a safe, supportive environment in therapy
I have opened up about my story to a number of Members who had feelings of guilt or shame around seeking treatment, I feel like it humanizes me to talk about that and acknowledge that I put off getting help. Even after I was in treatment for a long time, I still didn't even consider medication until probably 20 years later, and I regret that to some extent. And I find a lot of people struggle with that, no matter what their background is.
Why I became a therapist
The calling to be a therapist was something that existed in my life even before I had a name for it. I was always the supporter, always the caregiving type for people in my life. And when the opportunity to actually study it and turn it into something I could use to help other people came up, it just felt like the most natural thing in the world.
What I want to help you see in yourself
The skills to do this are already in you. You're just not used to using them intentionally and on demand. A lot of response prevention, a lot of the ways we deal with intrusive thoughts, aren't that different from how we deal with all kinds of other things in our lives. And so I really, really stress that everything we're going to do is something you already know how to do. You're just not used to doing it like this.

Very well. Brian is an expert at talking me down from thinking of something as scary. His assignments of compulsion avoidance are do-able because he takes it very easy one small step at a time. I really feel hopeful that I’m making progress. I’m also thankful that I can feel comfortable telling Brian anything about my obsessive thoughts as embarrassing as they are.

Brian is helping me understand my issues

Brian seems very knowledgeable, and I am looking forward to working more with him. We are just starting to delve into my triggers and start building a hierarchy for ERP.
J.M.
Brian seems to understand OCD well, and is helping me understand it better than my previous NOCD therapist. However, we had a billing issue that took longer than I expected to clear up, thus the slightly lower rating.

Great first visit with Brian!

The first session went very well. With just one meeting, my son’s mood was better later that evening and the next morning. Brian was a kind, confident pro, and I think this has helped my son to feel more hopeful now (me too.)

NOCD has been an effective and life changing program for my son diagnosed with PANS! His therapist is supportive and truly cares about the well-being of my son. We have been able to use the payment plan option to continue the therapy essential in helping my son manage his OCD. I highly recommend this program!

Brian was so kind! I was nervous to establish care with a new provider, but I needn't have been. Brian was professional, kind, and easy to talk to. I can already anticipate being able to trust him (which is so promising). Very eager to start working with him.
