My personal connection to OCD and mental health
I developed a phobia of dogs after being attacked by one. It was incredibly difficult, and I did some exposures to slow down the continuing fear and distress. Eventually, I saw that it worked. I saw how being exposed, sitting in a room with a dog, was something that I could endure. Overcoming that was really empowering, and I want people to feel that same thing. And I have helped people to feel empowered.
How I create a safe, supportive environment in therapy
I am really good at listening. I really just enjoy being present with you and really making you feel heard. That's something that I learned in my personal mental health experience-we all just want to be heard, be seen, and know that we can get better. I don't judge, either. I have so much experience with mental health that nothing really surprises me anymore. I've heard a lot of different stories, and I've seen a lot of different things.
What I want to help you see in yourself
I love the word resilience because that is exactly what people need and have. Confidence as well. At first, you might think, "This is hard. This is difficult. Can I do this?" I want you to be able to say, "Yes. I can." I know that ERP can seem hard, but I also know that you've faced harder things in your life, and that you survived. Every worst day, you survived. That shows resilience, and you can use that to build your confidence as well.
