You are not your OCD symptoms or diagnosis. The NOCD community is here to listen and treat your symptoms, not judge you. My approach to treating OCD is to build a therapeutic alliance with my members, then utilize ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention) together to treat and reduce symptoms of OCD. I love seeing people grow in confidence through ERP and go on to lead fulfilling lives. In addition to OCD treatment, my areas of focus include anxiety, perinatal mood disorders, and depression.

My personal connection to OCD and mental health
After I had my first daughter, I developed a lot of postpartum anxiety. I also had intrusive thoughts and didn't know what they were, so it was really scary at the time. I didn't have much information on OCD or postpartum anxiety but luckily I had a good OB-GYN who recognized what was going on. After about six months of medication and therapy, I got better and thought, "Man, I really want to give back." It was through that experience that I became a therapist.
How I create a safe, supportive environment in therapy
I'm never going to look down on you. I'm passionate about anybody with any OCD symptoms because OCD has a lot of stigma. It's scarier than the world even knows, unless they've experienced it themselves, have a loved one with it, or have studied it. People don't really understand how debilitating it can be.
My message to you if you're struggling right now
Look at how long you've had symptoms of OCD, or had an OCD diagnosis, or felt like you had OCD. What have you done in that time that has helped? Probably not much or you wouldn't be thinking about therapy. So even though it might seem scary, let's do it together. Let's do it afraid and see how we can get you back to being in charge of your life, and not just a participant in it. Any short-term discomfort is going to pale in comparison to the long-term gains of getting your life back.
