My personal connection to OCD and mental health
I've done a type of exposure therapy myself. When I first heard of it, I thought, "No way am I going to do that—forget about it," even though I saw people getting better. But then I finally tried it, and it was transformational for me. That experience really helps me be able to understand what our Members go through and how it feels to receive treatment.
What sets me apart from other OCD therapists
I am an immigrant. I came to the U.S. when I was 20 years old and it was very difficult. I think that learning other languages, traveling, and meeting new people has helped me become more open, and a better therapist in general. I can also do my sessions in Spanish and Portuguese.
What I wish people knew about ERP therapy
ERP is not torture. It's really not. With my Members, I look for that specific point where they can grow through ERP that is not causing too much—or too little—discomfort.
How I create a safe, supportive environment in therapy
An ERP therapist is not going to force you to do anything that you don't want to do. An exposure can sometimes mean just delaying something by a little. You can make your way to where you want to be.
