About

The most important aspect of any therapy is the therapeutic relationship. My approach will always start with establishing a trusting foundation. We will be in this together. Even though we'll hit the ground running—with education about OCD and exposures—we will start small and grow one step at a time. Outside of my work as a therapist, I enjoy spending time with my teenage son and our four dogs. I also love to read, watch movies and TV, go for walks, and meditate. I believe in the power of meditation/mindfulness and recently became a certified meditation teacher.

Get to know Melissa Jackson

I’ve always had a passion for helping others and providing support. I grew up with a curiosity about human behavior. I knew I wanted to be in a helping profession and pursued a degree in psychotherapy that would provide me with the understanding and tools I needed to help others. I'm dedicated to supporting individuals on their path to self-discovery, healing, and fulfillment.

Over the years, when I worked with individuals diagnosed with OCD, I didn't feel like I had the right tools to assist people in their healing. That drew me to ERP, the gold standard for treating OCD. I like that it's a hands-on treatment that can bring results quickly through a straightforward process.

I've been fortunate to work in a myriad of settings with people from all walks of life. I've worked in community mental health, private practice, prisons, and substance abuse facilities. I specialize in working with individuals with trauma, PTSD, and complex PTSD, and I have extensive training in trauma modalities including EMDR, somatic experiencing, CBT, and internal family systems. I also have a specialty in working with high-risk individuals, specifically utilizing DBT to address suicidality and self-harm in adolescents and adults.

Talking about your OCD may not be easy. I provide a safe and non-judgmental therapy environment where you can feel safe to open up and share what you're going through. That said, ERP is an active, behavioral treatment approach that requires a commitment on your part. ERP is an extremely effective treatment, but it will only be as effective as the effort you put in.

I've struggled with anxiety and depression myself. This helps me understand how important it is to get the help you need. I passionately believe therapy should be accessible for everyone. We all struggle with things in life, and I became a therapist because I don’t want others to feel alone in their struggle. I believe success in therapy starts with the therapeutic relationship, which takes effort from both client and therapist. It relies on being honest, empathic, nonjudgmental, and developing a safe, encouraging, and trusting environment.
