I take a very collaborative approach to treating OCD. I'm supportive and encouraging, but I'll challenge you to push yourself and engage in the treatment. It can be scary to sit with the distress you've been trying to avoid for years; however, when you commit to treatment and start living the ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention) lifestyle, you get to start living your life again. It's a wonderful and magical experience for you and for me. Beyond OCD, treating trauma is a passion of mine.

My personal connection to OCD and mental health

I have friends with OCD, and they've given me a deeper understanding of the problems it can create for people. I've also had generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) since I was about 11 or 12 years old, so I can empathize with the anxiety OCD often causes for people.

How I create a safe, supportive environment in therapy

I believe in being kind to everyone and seeing the best in everyone. I'll use humor and kindness, and be my genuine, authentic self, to help you feel comfortable opening up. If it's helpful for you, I won't hesitate to share some of my own experiences with anxiety.

What I want to help you see in yourself

I want you to see your own capacity for resilience and the tenacity you show by navigating your day-to-day life while dealing with OCD.

My message to you if you're considering therapy

Exposure and response prevention (ERP) therapy is effective. It works exceptionally well. It can take time to get used to the idea of learning to tolerate discomfort—but once you learn how to use the skills, you can start feeling better very quickly.

Good experience

Joe is so friendly and helpful. He provides helpful insights on OCD as well as caring about me as a person and my life, checking in on things he knows about, along with keeping me consistent with my ERP. He is also great at providing comedic relief and making me feel safe to discuss all things OCD. I highly recommend Joe and appreciate all that he has done to help my OCD, I’m so so much better than when I started treatment! And it shows in my assessment scores!
