Carrie Wells

Licensed Therapist, MS, LPC

At the core, I approach our work in therapy as a partner and collaborator. I don't profess to know any member better than they know themselves. We are always a team. When I’m not working, I love to be outdoors. I like to spend time with my horse whenever possible, as I'm endlessly learning the art of dressage. I also love my family and my dog. I enjoy traveling when I’m able, as I love to meet new people and see and learn new things.

Although the process of OCD therapy can be uncomfortable and challenging, the payoff is gargantuan.

Get to know Carrie Wells

I was ferried off to therapists as an adolescent and found the process very distasteful. I was never engaged or comfortable with any of them. At the time, I believed there must be better therapists who were more accessible. It was my mission to become the kind of therapist I wished I had as a teenager. I have found that building relationships with my members and collaborating with them to create and meet goals is so rewarding. Discovering that I can make a difference to someone and help them live their lives fully is food for my soul.

I have worked with many people over the years, in past jobs and private practice, who have struggled with symptoms of OCD. I tended to focus on other symptoms primarily as these were both more familiar and perhaps more prominent. I began to attend continuing education courses offered through NOCD and found that Dr. McGrath was very accessible, knowledgeable, and fascinating. As I learned more about NOCD, I became aware of the treatment protocols and the success rates in helping people learn the tools to get back to their lives.

I formerly worked with adults diagnosed with persistent and acute mental illnesses in both residential and outpatient settings. I can say with great certainty that there is nothing that would surprise me. In my private practice, I have worked with adolescents and adults struggling with everything from loneliness and grief to psychosis and delusional thoughts.

You should know that although the process can be uncomfortable and challenging, the payoff is gargantuan.

Often, OCD puts some very challenging material in people’s minds. The thoughts can be embarrassing, challenging, and a point of shame. I'm neither shocked nor judgmental about what comes up for people. I like to say that I’ve heard it all! I know that OCD attacks what is most precious, and I like to remind members of that. I am very aware that your thoughts are not you.

I’ve only had two sessions with Carrie for my severe OCD but she is extremely caring and goes the extra step to help. I’ve felt suicidal for the past two weeks due to my OCD but I have a glimmer of hope for the first time only after two sessions. Thank you so much

Starting ERP and I think Carrie is challenging me without pushing too far, so uncomfortable but not devastating. By the end of the session I'm nervous but also feel empowered and supported to start exposures.
