My personal connection to OCD and mental health
I've struggled with anxiety throughout my life. Different experiences made it harder to manage everything and I felt like things were out of control or spiraling. I knew at that point I needed to reach out for help. Therapy was super helpful with allowing me to gain control of my symptoms, feeling like I was talking to someone who understood what was happening, and giving me some concrete tools to move through things.
How I create a safe, supportive environment in therapy
I want to create a space where you feel like you can be heard without being judged or dismissed, especially if you're talking about something super sensitive or distressing for you. I want our sessions to be a time where you look forward to sharing successes, but also difficulties, because having a hard time doesn't mean you're failing. It means you're learning and can use that opportunity moving forward.
What I want to help you see in yourself
I want you to focus on self-confidence. I want you to feel confident in your ability to manage triggers, struggles, things that are coming up, and to know that there is support. I'm someone you can bring these things to, and we can work through them.
The most rewarding part of treating OCD
Being part of the journey is the most rewarding part—seeing that progress from the beginning, and hearing how what someone was struggling with before now isn't impacting them the same way is so huge. I think that ERP is a life-changing treatment. It really works, and it's nice to hear all of the wins that are happening in and out of session, and to be there to cheer people on. To me, that feels like the most rewarding piece.

She just really knows what she's doing. She's able to read between the lines and figure out what my child is dealing with, or needs. She has helped him and our family heal. She has compassion for my precious son, who struggles. He has improved in so many areas and has more confidence.

So grateful and blessed to have Alyssa Cruz as my therapist on this journey of healing and growing. Trust came naturally with her as she immediately demonstrated kindness and compassion. I feel completely at ease having difficult conversations with her. It’s nice to be heard, I know that she genuinely cares and I know that she interprets what I’m saying, and how I’m feeling without judgement and while being vulnerable doesn’t come easy for me, but I know I’m in a safe space. I couldn’t have asked for a better therapist.
