Jonathon Du Ross

Licensed Therapist, LMFT, LIMFT

In session, I provide a warm and informal environment. I like to use humor to highlight the absurdity of life in general and to promote flexibility in the way we see those moments. Learning to laugh about them can help you to take those first steps to accept that you're going through a difficult time, and you're going to move beyond it. Outside of work, I grew up skateboarding, and I'm very much still involved in that. I have previous injuries so I can't do as much as I like, but I love to watch competitions.

From working through my own mental health challenges, I know what it's like to feel stuck in thoughts and discouraged. I also understand what it's like to learn that I’m able to overcome fear.

Get to know Jonathon Du Ross

I saw benefits from doing therapy myself, and I wanted to be able to give back. I knew I was able to empathize with and understand people. I wanted to help other people achieve their goals like I was able to do.

I saw it as a challenge that I initially struggled to understand. I worked with someone who had OCD, and I couldn't figure out why things weren't getting better. Then I learned about ERP. I also love how specializing in OCD gives me a variety of experiences. There's always something new. Everyone is different. I myself got treatment for ADHD. I've dealt with childhood trauma, depression, and anxiety throughout my life. I went to an acceptance commitment therapist, and I still use that type of style, incorporated with ERP.

I have experience in anxiety disorders, depression and trauma. I've also worked with folks who struggle with executive functioning, like communication skills, organizing information, time management, and planning.

You don't necessarily need to come in knowing anything other than the specific thoughts you're dealing with. What situations, people, or objects bring on those intense thoughts you're having? ERP can be very effective, as long as you commit to do the exposures, do work outside of session, and keep learning. You should devote anywhere from half an hour to 45 minutes of your day, cumulatively, in between sessions to doing exposures.

That's a very common experience. It's okay to reveal things in your own time. A specialist trained in OCD can help you navigate those fears and overcome them.
