I began my career in 2005 working in residential treatment programs, treating adolescents and teens with grief counseling and OCD. I moved into outpatient work a few years later, helping adults with various mental health challenges, including OCD. I used Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy during OCD sessions, which is what I’ll be using during our time through NOCD. The response I see from using ERP is terrific. People see results, and they see them rather quickly.
I know firsthand how effective ERP therapy is for battling OCD because I used ERP to treat my OCD. In college, I practiced checking and other rituals as a way to deal with OCD anxiety. ERP can work so long as you put in the effort to do the exercises, which puts you in a position to sit with your anxiety as you face your fears. But the reward for going through a few weeks of discomfort feels that you have your life back. Speaking from experience, it’s a beautiful feeling. Members tell me that I am easy to talk to, knowledgeable, and genuinely empathetic. I also have training in cultural diversity because one’s culture can directly influence OCD. I became a therapist to help others in the way I was helped. I know that together, we can treat your OCD.
